What to Expect at WES

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WESTFALL ELEMENTARY 


THIS INFORMATION WILL CONTINUE TO CHANGE AS WE LEARN MORE INFORMATION AND DEVELOP PROTOCOLS AND PROCEDURES. THESE ARE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE FIRST QUARTER OF SCHOOL AND WILL BE RE-EVALUATED. 

Back to School Events

  • Meet the Teacher Night will be held virtually.

Classroom

  • Changes have been made in order to create more personal space such as removing unnecessary furniture, spreading out work stations and rearranging desks and tables to face the same direction.

  • All students will be required to immediately report to their classroom upon entering the buildings and will not be permitted to congregate in hallways, restrooms or common areas.

  • We will minimize the sharing of supplies in all classrooms.

  • Teachers are encouraged to utilize outdoor learning when possible. Face coverings will be required outside when adequate social distance is not possible.

Arrival/Dismissal

  • Students will have designated doors for arrival and dismissal and staggered entry and exit times.

  • Hallways have designated signage on the floor for social distancing.

  • All stairwells are designated as one way.

Recess

  • We will have two daily recesses and multiple mask breaks.  Students will be able to remove their masks if they are engaged in physical activity and more than 6 feet apart.

  • Students will be allowed to use the playground equipment and may not bring their own equipment.

  • Playground equipment will be disinfected after each use.

  • Students will wash or sanitize hands before and after recess.

Field Trips and Events

  • Until further notice, no field trips will be permitted.

Visitors and Volunteers

  • Once school is in session, no visitors or volunteers will be allowed in the building until further notice.

Stay Home if You’re Sick

  • Please take you and your child’s temperature each morning and do not send them to school if it is above 100 degrees or if any of you are feeling ill or exhibiting any COVID symptoms.

  • Families are expected to screen their children prior to the start of school each day. Students exhibiting any of the COVID-19 symptoms above should stay home.

  • If we call and ask you to pick your child up for health reasons, please do so as soon as possible to limit possible exposure of other students and staff.

  • Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:

    • Fever or chills

    • Cough

    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

    • Fatigue

    • Muscle or body aches

    • Headache

    • New loss of taste or smell

    • Sore throat

    • Congestion or runny nose

    • Nausea or vomiting

    • Diarrhea

Cafeteria/Lunch Adjustments

  • Students in Pre-K, K, 1, 2 will eat in their classroom and are encouraged to bring their own lunch.  Students in grades 3, 4, 5 will eat socially distanced in the cafetorium at 2 students per table and are encouraged to bring their own lunch.

  • All students will eat breakfast in their classroom.

  • Students eligible for Free and Reduced lunch will be offered meals while learning remotely during hybrid and distance learning.  More details will be forthcoming.

  • Sharing of food is prohibited.
